
The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, has launched a 6-month ‘Fellowship in Genetic Diagnostics’ under its UMMID (National Inherited Disorders Administration Kendras) initiative. The program aims to train faculty and clinicians from government medical colleges and hospitals to develop genetic facilities and provide comprehensive clinical care for inherited disorders. This fellowship will provide hands-on training in cytogenetic and molecular genetic techniques.
The fellowship is available at well-established centers across India, with one such center being the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.
Eligibility and Remuneration
- Who Can Apply: This fellowship is exclusively for permanent faculty, physicians, and scientists holding a regular position in a government medical college or hospital.
- Educational Qualifications: Applicants must have a postgraduate degree (MD/MS/DNB) in a range of clinical and paraclinical specialties, including Pediatrics, Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Pathology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, and others.
- Number of Seats: There are 4 seats available for this batch at PGIMER, Chandigarh.
- Displacement Allowance: Outstation trainees will receive a displacement allowance of ₹30,000 per month. This is only for those not from the city where the training is conducted.
Application and Selection Process
- Fellowship Schedule: The 2nd batch is scheduled to start on October 15, 2025, and will conclude in March 2026.
- Application Deadline: The last date to submit applications is September 30, 2025.

- The application must be forwarded by the Head (Director/Principal) of the applicant’s institute.
- A soft copy of the application form, along with self-attested photocopies of degree, MCI registration, and experience certificates, should be emailed to the Training Coordinators at
