Opportunity: JRF Position in ANRF Project at IISER Mohali

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Mohali is inviting applications for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in the Department of Biological Sciences. This role is part of a high-impact research project funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) focusing on bacterial antagonism against fungi that cause Mucormycosis.


Project Details

  • Project Title: Investigating the Genetic Basis of Bacterial Antagonism Against Mucormycosis causing Fungi.
  • Project No: ANRF/ARG/2025/008076/LS
  • Principal Investigator (PI): Dr. Rhitoban Raychoudhury (IISER Mohali)
  • Co-PI: Dr. Ruchira Sen (SGGS College, Chandigarh)
  • Duration: 12 months (Initially), extendable based on performance.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s Degree in any branch of Biology from a recognized University.
  • Experience: 1–2 years of R&D experience in Industrial/Academic institutions or S&T organizations.
  • Examination: Must have qualified in a national-level exam (e.g., NET, GATE, DBT-JRF).

2. Desirable Skills

Candidates with expertise in the following areas will be preferred:

  • Isolating and rearing macrofungi.
  • Advanced molecular biology and handling live microbes.
  • Bioinformatics: Handling high-throughput transcriptome and genomics data.

Job Description & Responsibilities

The selected JRF will be responsible for:

  • Conducting experiments on microbial interactions.
  • Analyzing transcriptomic and genomic data to find the genetic basis of fungal inhibition.
  • Rearing, maintaining, and performing co-culturing assays of bacteria and fungi.
  • Assisting in lab operations, including procurement of reagents and maintenance of stocks.
