
Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, is inviting applications for a Research Scientist – I (Non-Medical) position. This is a temporary, contract-based role for a research project funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

- Principal Investigator (PI): Dr. Rahul Dhodapkar, Department of Microbiology
- Duration: 1 year (likely to be extended at the PI’s discretion)
- Consolidated Remuneration: ₹67,200 (₹56,000 + 20% HRA) per month. No other allowances are payable.
Responsibilities
The Research Scientist will be responsible for coordinating all research activities related to the project. This includes:
- Managing and distributing reagents and supplies.
- Troubleshooting assays.
- Interacting with other centers involved in the project.
Eligibility and Desirable Experience
- Essential Qualifications: A first-class Master’s degree in Life Sciences from a recognized university. Alternatively, a second-class Master’s degree with a Ph.D. in a relevant subject is also acceptable.
- Desirable Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, or Veterinary Sciences is highly preferred. Additionally, candidates with at least one year of R&D/teaching experience, especially with post-doctoral research or training, will be given preference.
- Relevant Experience: The ideal candidate will have experience in handling clinical samples, using serological and molecular techniques, and a strong knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Laboratory Quality Management Systems (LQMS), and NABL accreditation. Knowledge of computer applications or data management tools is also desirable.
- Age Limit: 35 years as of the application deadline. Age relaxation is applicable as per Government of India norms for reserved categories.

Selection Procedure
The selection process will involve an evaluation of the application and CV, followed by a written test and/or interview. The written test will cover topics at the M.Sc. level and will be worth 80 marks (with no negative marking). The interview will be for 20 marks. The final selection will be based on the candidate’s overall performance in these stages. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
