
The National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG), an Institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, is recruiting highly qualified candidates for contractual positions under a multi-institutional project: “Expansion of INSACOG – Wastewater Surveillance of SARS-CoV-2, Emerging Pathogens and Antimicrobial Resistance through Genomics-Based Methods.”
The project aims to establish a pan-India surveillance and early warning system for various viral and bacterial pathogens using genomic methods. Appointments are initially for one year, extendable based on performance and project requirements.

Key Roles and Desirable Expertise
Project Manager (Coordination & Leadership)
- Nature of Duty: Overall coordination of all aspects of the multi-institutional project, liaising with partner institutes, ensuring strict adherence to timelines, preparing professional reports, and overseeing laboratory records.
- Desirable: Minimum 1 year of experience in managing large, multicenter projects.
Project Scientist-I (Genomics & Data Analysis)
- Nature of Duty: Analysis of genome sequence data (metagenome, viral genome, bacterial genome), report preparation, data curation, modeling, and establishing a centralized data analysis and reporting system.
- Desirable: Experience in database handling, web-program development, Unix, R, and biostatistics, along with peer-reviewed publications.
Project Associate II (Hands-on Lab/Bioinformatics)
- Experimental Focus: Environmental sample collection, nucleic acid extraction, RT-PCR, DD-PCR, isolation of AMR pathogens, Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing (AST), and genome sequencing.
- Desirable: Minimum 1 year experience in molecular biology / bacteriology and hands-on Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
- Bioinformatics Focus: Experience in database handling, web-program mining, Unix, R, and biostatistics, and analysis of genome sequence data (metagenome, viral/bacterial genome).
