
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially opened registrations for the Graduate Aptitude Test – Biotechnology (GAT-B) and the Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET) 2026. Conducted on behalf of the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), these exams serve as the primary gateway for students seeking careers in India’s growing biotechnology sector.
Key Highlights of the Notification
- GAT-B 2026: For admission to DBT-supported postgraduate programs (M.Sc., M.Tech., M.V.Sc.) across participating institutions. Admitted students are eligible for monthly stipends ranging from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 12,000.
- BET 2026: The national qualifying exam for the DBT-Junior Research Fellowship (DBT-JRF). Successful Category-I candidates can activate their fellowship for Ph.D. research at any recognized Indian university.
- Exam Date: Both examinations are scheduled for May 17, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.

Eligibility & Application Fee
- Eligibility: Open to Indian nationals with relevant degrees in Biotechnology or Life Sciences. Candidates in their final year (Result Awaited) are also eligible to apply.
- Age Limit (BET): Up to 28 years for General/EWS, with relaxations for SC/ST/OBC/Women/PwD candidates.
- Fees (Single Paper): Rs. 1,300 for General/OBC/EWS; Rs. 650 for SC/ST/PwD.
