BRIC-inStem Bangalore PhD Admission 2027: Applications Invited for January Intake in Advanced Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Research

The BRIC-Institute for Stem Cell Science & Regenerative Medicine (BRIC-inStem), located in Bangalore, has officially invited applications from eligible candidates for its Ph.D. program starting in the January 2027 intake. Operating as an autonomous institute under the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC), Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, BRIC-inStem focuses on collaborative interdisciplinary research in stem cell biology, regeneration, development, and disease repair with a strong translational emphasis.
Key Research Areas
Research at BRIC-inStem addresses complex questions beyond single laboratory scopes by tackling areas such as:
- Developing human stem cells and organoid systems to study developmental and congenital disorders.
- Cardiovascular development and disease, neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders.
- Barrier tissue dysfunction and metabolic control, alongside chemical biology approaches to generate therapeutic solutions.
Minimum Qualifications to Apply
- Educational Background: M.Sc./Integrated M.Sc. in any science branch (such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics), M.Tech., M.Pharm, M.B.B.S., a 4-year Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent qualification recognized by RCB.
- Marks Requirements: Master’s degree holders must have a minimum of 60% marks (or equivalent CGPA/First Class) in both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Direct 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree holders must secure a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate.
- Category Relaxations: A 5% relaxation in marks/CGPA is applicable for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/differently-abled (Divyangjan) candidates as per Government of India norms and RCB ordinances.
- Fellowship Requirement: Candidates must possess an eligible national fellowship that can be activated in 2027, such as UGC/CSIR/DBT/ICMR JRF or similar competitive fellowships valid for 5 years. Note that candidates qualifying solely via JGEEBILS or GATE will not be considered.
Application Fee Details
- Standard Fee: UR, EWS, and OBC candidates must pay an online application fee of Rs. 472/- (Rs. 400/- plus 18% GST), excluding bank transaction charges.
- Fee Exemptions: SC/ST community members, as well as female and PwD category applicants of any community, are completely exempted from application fees upon submitting valid certificates.
Selection Procedure & Important Dates
- Screening: Shortlisting for Round 1 depends on past academic performance, research experience, aptitude, and criteria set by the screening committee.
- Round 1 (Online): Tentatively scheduled to be held online in the second week of November 2026.
- Round 2 (In-Person): Tentatively scheduled for the first week of December 2026 in-person at Bangalore for candidates qualifying the first round.
- Academic Affiliation: Selected candidates will be enrolled in BRIC-inStem’s PhD program with academic affiliation to the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad.
- Application Deadline: The last date to submit online applications is 21st October 2026.
