R. G. Kar Medical College & Hospital Seeks Research Assistant for Viral Surveillance Project

R. G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata is inviting applications from eligible Indian citizens for the temporary and contractual post of a Research Assistant. This position is part of a DHR/ICMR-funded research project titled “Pan India surveillance for respiratory viruses through DHR-ICMR VRDL Network – strengthening VRDLs in West Bengal and Kerala.” The selected candidate will work within the Department of Microbiology at the hospital.

  • Number of Positions: 1
  • Remuneration: The salary is a consolidated ₹31,000 per month.
  • Age Limit: The upper age limit for applicants is 45 years as of September 1, 2025.
  • Contract Term: The initial contract is for one year, with the possibility of extension based on the candidate’s performance and the project’s requirements. This is a purely contractual role and does not guarantee a permanent position.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Essential Qualification: A Post Graduate degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Virology, or Biotechnology from a government-recognized university is mandatory.
  • Desirable Qualifications: Candidates with higher academic qualifications, working knowledge of MS Office and data management, and prior experience in similar project work will be given preference. Familiarity with local languages is also a plus.

Application and Selection Process

  • Application Period: Applications will be accepted from September 20, 2025, onwards.
  • Application Deadline: The last date to submit the application is October 18, 2025, at 2:00 PM sharp.
  • How to Apply: Applicants must submit a completed application form, along with self-attested copies of all qualifications and experience certificates, and two recent passport-sized photographs. These documents should be placed in a sealed envelope and submitted at the Department of Microbiology, 5th Floor, Academic Building, R. G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, Kolkata.
  • Selection: The selection will be made based on an interview conducted by an Institute-level recruitment committee. Please note that no TA/DA will be provided for attending the interview.
