NIPER Ahmedabad has officially opened applications for senior research positions focused on a groundbreaking project in cancer therapeutics. Funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the study aims to advance “Hit to Lead Optimization” for novel chemical hybrids designed to treat Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).
This initiative underscores NIPER Ahmedabad’s mission to serve as a premier hub for pharmaceutical innovation, leveraging its strategic proximity to India’s leading medical centers and biotech industries.
The Project: Combatting Leukemia with Adamantane-Quinoxalone Hybrids
The research, titled “Hit to Lead Optimization of Adamantane-Quinoxalone Hybrids for the Precision Chemotherapy of Acute Myeloid Leukemia,” is led by Dr. Dinesh Kumar, Associate Professor in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry.
The project focuses on developing targeted, small-molecule inhibitors. By combining Adamantane (known for its lipophilic properties) with Quinoxalone scaffolds, researchers hope to create a potent “precision” treatment that selectively targets leukemia cells, reducing the side effects typically associated with traditional chemotherapy.
