Role Overview and Key Accountabilities
The Clinical Research Medical Advisor provides crucial country-level clinical and medical leadership for Novartis’ clinical development programs. Key responsibilities include:
- Protocol Feasibility & Trial Start-Up: Validate study designs, make final decisions on protocol feasibility based on clinical practice and patient availability, and drive trial start-up success.
- Medical & Scientific Expertise: Provide guidance to clinical operations teams and trial sites regarding protocol implementation, Institutional Review Board (IRB)/Ethics Committee (EC) submissions, and regulatory interactions.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Lead engagement with key opinion leaders, investigators, regulatory authorities, advisory boards, and patient advocacy groups.
- Patient Recruitment & Strategy: Design strategies to anticipate recruitment and data quality challenges while creating robust mitigation plans.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Regulatory, Pharmacovigilance, HEOR, and Patient Access teams to ensure patient safety, data integrity, and compliance with ICH-GCP guidelines.
Candidate Profile and Qualifications
- Education: MBBS, M.D., Ph.D., or Pharm.D. required, with an M.D. strongly preferred; subspecialty training or Real-World Evidence (RWE) experience is considered a strong advantage.
- Experience: 1 to 3+ years of experience in pharmaceutical clinical development or clinical practice, featuring a solid grasp of end-to-end drug development.
- Core Skills: Comprehensive understanding of ICH-GCP guidelines, clinical research regulations, and patient safety standards, alongside proven leadership and multidisciplinary team management capabilities.
