Essential Qualifications & Experience
Candidates applying for the Scientific Officer posts must fulfill the following educational and experience criteria by the closing date:
- Educational Qualifications:
- At least 2nd class M.Sc. in Forensic Science (with specialization, dissertation work, course work, or project work in Chemical Sciences); OR
- At least 2nd class M.Sc. in Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, Pharmacy, M.S. (Pharm.), or M.Pharm. from a recognized university.
- Post-Qualification Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in research, training, and analytical work within the specified subjects.
- Experience certificates must be officially issued and signed by either a Research Supervisor or the Head of the Organization/Department.
- Research work conducted specifically for completing a Ph.D. degree counts toward the required three-year experience.
Selection Scheme & Examination Structure
The selection procedure involves a multi-stage examination process depending on the candidate-to-vacancy ratio:
- Paper-I (Screening Test): A 1-hour Computer Based Test (CBT) or offline objective test carrying 100 marks (Multiple Choice Questions with negative marking of 0.25 for wrong answers or unattempted questions without selecting option ‘E’). It covers:
- General Knowledge of Himachal Pradesh (30 Marks)
- General Knowledge of National and International Affairs (30 Marks)
- Knowledge of Hindi Language (20 Marks)
- Knowledge of English Language (20 Marks)
- Paper-II (Subject Aptitude Test – SAT): A 3-hour descriptive test carrying 120 marks based on a specialized syllabus. General category candidates must secure a minimum of 45% marks, while reserved categories require 40% to qualify.
- Personality Test: Carries 30 marks, held at the Commission’s office in Shimla for shortlisted candidates based on their performance in Paper-II.
