
The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), a statutory body under the Government of India, has officially launched the call for proposals for the J. C. Bose Grant (JBG). This scheme is a restructured version of the prestigious J. C. Bose Fellowship previously administered by SERB.
The grant is designed to recognize and support active, senior-level Indian scientists and engineers who have demonstrated outstanding performance and made significant contributions to their fields.

Financial Structure
The annual research grant of ₹25 Lakhs is distributed under two primary budget heads:
- Recurring Head: Covers manpower, consumables, domestic travel, and contingency costs.
- Non-Recurring Head: Up to 20% of the annual grant can be utilized for equipment.
- Overheads: A fixed amount of ₹1.0 Lakh per annum is provided to the host institution to cover administrative costs.
Eligibility & Nomination Process
Who Can Apply?
- Senior Professionals: Must hold a Professor-level position or equivalent in a recognized Indian institution/university.
- Proven Track Record: Excellence must be evidenced by high-impact publications, patents, technology transfers, or national/international awards.
- Citizenship: Indian nationals and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) working in India are eligible.
How to Submit
The J. C. Bose Grant is nomination-based. Nominations can be submitted by:
- Heads of Institutions or Universities.
- Presidents of National Science Academies.
- Current J. C. Bose Fellows.

Important Terms to Note
- Superannuation: If a PI retires during the grant period, the funding can continue until age 68, provided a host institution agrees to provide the necessary infrastructure.
- Exclusivity: Recipients are generally not permitted to hold other personal fellowships from government sources simultaneously.
- Term Limits: Investigators who have already completed three terms as a J. C. Bose Fellow or Grantee are not eligible for further terms.
