GATE 2026 Notification Released: Eligibility, Dates, and Benefits for Pharmacy & Science Students

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026, a national-level examination, is set to be conducted by IIT Guwahati. The exam serves as an assessment for admission into various Master’s and Doctoral programs, as well as for recruitment by several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).

Important Details

Organizing Institute: IIT Guwahati, on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Ministry of Education, Government of India.
Eligibility: Candidates in the 3rd year or higher of an undergraduate degree program, or those who have already completed a government-approved degree, are eligible to apply. This includes students of M.Pharm, B.Pharm, Pharm.D, and M.Sc.
Score Validity: A valid GATE score is good for three years from the date of result announcement.

Application Fees (Per Test Paper)

Regular Period:
- Female/SC/ST/PwD candidates: ₹1,000
- All other candidates (including foreign nationals): ₹2,000
Extended Period:
- Female/SC/ST/PwD candidates: ₹1,500
- All other candidates (including foreign nationals): ₹2,500
Note: Candidates applying for two papers must pay double the fee.

Benefits of a GATE Score

Higher Education: A GATE score is essential for admission to Master’s and Doctoral programs in various disciplines across institutions funded by the Ministry of Education.
Financial Assistance: A valid score can secure financial support for post-graduate studies. M.Tech students receive ₹12,400 per month, while Ph.D. scholars (direct Ph.D. after B.E./B.Tech/M.Sc) are eligible for ₹37,000 per month for the first two years, increasing to ₹42,000 from the third year.
PSU Recruitment: Many prominent Public Sector Undertakings, such as BHEL, GAIL, IOCL, ONGC, NTPC, and SAIL, use GATE scores as a primary criterion for their recruitment processes.
