
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, in a pioneering collaboration with Tufts University, Boston, has announced a major hiring for a Program Manager (Specialist Scientist). This senior position is for their newly established Interdisciplinary Centre for Nutrition Science and Medicine (ICNSM), which is dedicated to addressing the global nutrition crisis.
The ICNSM, launched in June 2025, is a unique initiative focused on integrating nutrition science, medicine, and public health to develop innovative, culturally-grounded solutions. The Program Manager will play a pivotal role in providing strategic and operational leadership for all of the Centre’s activities.
Position Overview and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Dean of the Medical Sciences division at IISc, the Program Manager will be responsible for overseeing the administrative, financial, and communication functions of the Centre. This role is crucial for ensuring smooth operations and will serve as a key liaison between IISc and Tufts University.
Key responsibilities include:
- Strategic Leadership: Developing and implementing ICNSM’s strategic vision and aligning activities with its core mission.
- Operational Oversight: Managing the Centre’s day-to-day operations, including human resources and administrative processes.
- Financial Management: Overseeing budgets and actively assisting faculty and researchers in securing grants and other funding to ensure the Centre’s sustainability.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external partners, funders, and the broader research community.
Qualifications and Remuneration
- Minimum Qualification: A Master’s degree in science/engineering, or an M.D./M.S./M.D.S./M.V.Sc./M.P.H. or an equivalent degree from a recognized university is essential.
- Desirable Experience: The ideal candidate will have 7 to 10 years of senior project management experience, preferably in an academic or research environment. Experience in fundraising, business development, and managing international, cross-cultural initiatives is highly preferred.
- Salary: The position offers a competitive salary ranging from ₹82,000 to ₹1,76,000 per month, plus applicable HRA. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and expertise.
