Gujarat Biotechnology University Announces Senior Research Fellow Positions

Gujarat Biotechnology University (GBU), located near GIFT City, Gandhinagar, has announced multiple openings for Senior Research Fellow (SRF) positions for various projects funded by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of Gujarat.

Available Research Projects

There are a total of 10 SRF positions available, with 2 posts for each of the following five projects:

  1. Enzyme Portfolios for Green Catalysis: Focuses on developing enzymes for producing Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and other high-value biomolecules.
    • Minimum Qualification: Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Life Science, Biomedical Sciences, or Bio-Engineering with at least 55% marks.
    • Desirable Experience: Protein engineering, protein modeling, molecular cloning, protein expression/purification, and enzyme kinetics.
  2. Climate Resilience in Brassica juncea: Utilizes genetic, genomic, and microbial approaches to enhance climate resilience and nutrient-use efficiency in mustard plants.
    • Minimum Qualification: M.Sc./M.Tech. in Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Genetics & Plant Breeding, Molecular Biology, Life Sciences, Agricultural Biotechnology, Genomics, or Bioinformatics with at least 55% marks.
    • Desirable Experience: CRISPR/Cas genome editing, plant transformation, molecular biology skills, genomic data analysis, bioinformatics, and microbiome research.
  3. Genome Editing for Humanized Mice and Biopharma: Aims to establish a genome editing platform for developing humanized mice and biopharmaceutical production in farm animals’ milk.
    • Minimum Qualification: Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Life-Science, Biomedical Sciences, Bioengineering, or Veterinary Science with at least 55% marks.
    • Desirable Experience: Molecular biology techniques (PCR, qPCR, NGS), CRISPR/Cas9, recombinant protein expression, and animal model generation.
  4. Development of Biorepository: Focuses on establishing a biorepository for cancer and other tissues.
    • Minimum Qualification: Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Toxicology, Life Science, or Biomedical Sciences with at least 55% marks.
    • Desirable Experience: Handling human tissue, basic molecular and protein techniques, animal cell culture, and bioinformatics.
  5. Biorefinery from Agro-, Food-, and Vegetable Waste: A circular bioeconomy project to produce biogas, hydro/bio-char, and other products from agricultural waste.
    • Minimum Qualification: Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Life-Science, Biomedical Sciences, Bioengineering, or Veterinary Science with at least 55% marks.
    • Desirable Experience: Knowledge of mineral-microbe interactions, handling anaerobic microbial cultures, and analytical skills (GC, LC, Spectroscopy).

Fellowship and General Terms

  • Age Limit: Up to 30 years as of the application closing date, with age relaxation for reserved categories.
  • Fellowship: A monthly fellowship of ₹27,300 will be provided.
  • Duration: The positions are temporary, valid until March 2026, with the possibility of extension based on project approval from the DST, Government of Gujarat.
  • Application Deadline: The last date to submit applications is September 24, 2025.

The selection will be based on a candidate’s CV, qualifications, and experience. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. No TA/DA will be provided for attending the interview.
