
The National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) – Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), a leading institute focused on life sciences research, is recruiting a Grants Officer (Post-award & Development) to strengthen its Research Development Office (RDO). The RDO plays a vital role in securing and managing extramural research funding from diverse national, international, and philanthropic sources.
This role is essential for ensuring that research awards are administered efficiently, funds are utilized optimally, and compliance is maintained across all projects, thereby supporting successful research outcomes for NCBS faculty.
Position Overview
The position available is Grants Officer (Post-award & Development), with one vacancy at the NCBS campus in Bangalore.
The appointment is a fixed-term position, initially for one (1) year, and is renewable annually subject to performance assessment. The consolidated salary will be determined based on the candidate’s qualification and relevant experience, adhering to institutional guidelines. The upper age limit is 40 years as of July 1, 2025 (relaxation applicable per Government of India norms). The Last date for receipt of the Online application is 26th November 2025.
Key Qualifications and Experience
Essential Requirements
Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree (preferably in any branch of Sciences or Management). They must be proficient in MS Office applications, demonstrate proven communication skills, and have strong time-management and interpersonal skills. Crucially, the applicant must have the ability to analyze, summarize, and communicate information effectively, and work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
Desirable Experience
Prior experience in post-award grants management or related research administration roles is highly preferred. Knowledge of software tools and databases used for grant reporting, management, and data analysis is also advantageous.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
The Grants Officer will manage the administrative lifecycle of research awards, focusing on compliance and strategy:
- Post-Award Management: Facilitate all processes following the grant award, including grant activation, extensions, transfers, and final closures.
- Monitoring & Compliance: Utilize the Grant Management System to maintain a reporting calendar and reminder system. Track project timelines, deliverables, and expenditures to ensure optimal fund utilization in full compliance with agency norms.
- Reporting: Ensure timely preparation and submission of both financial and technical reports to funding agencies. This involves close liaison with Principal Investigators (PIs) and the Finance team to guarantee data accuracy and prepare reports for select institutional grants.
- Information & Data Strategy: Manage and analyze grant-related data to generate insights for stakeholders. Identify emerging funding trends to help guide institutional fundraising and enhance grant success rates.
- Outreach and Engagement: Coordinate outreach efforts to funding agencies and assist with donor engagement.
- Conflict Resolution: Contribute to the resolution of administrative queries and conflicts related to grant management.
- Institutional Support: Assist with additional fundraising and program renewals and collaborate effectively with RDO colleagues and other NCBS departments.
