Major Recruitment Drugs Inspector (419 Posts) under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has announced new recruitment rules for the critical post of Drugs Inspector within the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), Directorate General of Health Services. These rules supersede the 2010 regulations, aiming to fill a significant number of vacancies by Direct Recruitment.

Position and Compensation Details

  • Post Name: Drugs Inspector
  • Total Posts: 419 (as projected for 2025, noting that the final count is subject to variation based on workload).
  • Pay Scale: Level-8 in the pay matrix (ranging from Rs. 47,600 to Rs. 1,51,100).

Eligibility Criteria for Direct Recruits

Educational Qualification (Essential)

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University or Institute in any of the following fields:

  • Pharmacy
  • Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Medicine with specialization in Clinical Pharmacology or Microbiology.

Age Limit

  • Maximum Age: Not exceeding thirty years as the cut-off date.
  • Note: Age relaxation of up to five years is applicable for serving Government servants, in accordance with Central Government instructions. The precise crucial date for age determination will be officially advertised by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Recruitment Method and Service Conditions

Method of Recruitment

  • The vacancy will be filled 100% by Direct Recruitment.
  • Deputation Clause: Vacancies lasting one year or more (e.g., due to long illness or study leave) may be filled on a temporary deputation basis from eligible Central Government officers who meet the prescribed qualifications and experience.

Probation Period

  • Duration: Two years.
  • Mandatory Training: Successful completion of probation requires a mandatory induction training of at least two weeks duration, as prescribed by the Central Government.

Application & Selection Notes

The recruitment process, including the application submission window and examination schedule, is governed by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

  • Relaxation: The UPSC retains the discretion to relax educational qualifications or experience for otherwise well-qualified candidates or for SC/ST candidates if sufficient numbers are not available, provided reasons are recorded in writing.
