Google has officially opened applications for its prestigious 2026 PhD Fellowship Program, seeking to identify and support the world’s most promising young academics. This year’s program places a high-priority focus on Health Research, aiming to bridge the gap between advanced AI and real-world clinical outcomes.
Selected Fellows will join a globally recognized community, receiving direct financial support and mentorship from Google researchers. The fellowship is designed for students who are pioneering innovative solutions in computer science, particularly those tackling complex medical data and population health challenges.
Focus on Health Innovation
Google is calling for research proposals that address three critical sub-pillars:
- Population Health: Deriving insights from global datasets to improve health outcomes in under-resourced communities.
- Medical Data Analytics: Developing algorithms to better interpret images, genomics, and lab tests.
- Consumer Health Technology: Creating software or hardware that empowers individuals to understand their own health status.
Fellowship Tiers (India Focus)
The program offers two distinct tracks for students in India:
- Early-Stage PhD: A 4-year fellowship providing USD 50,000 to cover stipends, research, and international travel.
- Late-Stage PhD: A 1-year fellowship providing USD 10,000 to recognize existing research contributions and support final-year activities.
