National Institute of Immunology (NII) Hiring Senior Project Associate for DBT-Funded BSL3/ABSL3 Project

The National Institute of Immunology (NII), New Delhi, invites applications for the contractual position of Senior Project Associate under a time-bound research project sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT). The project focuses on expanding high-containment Biosafety Level facilities for research on existing and emerging bacterial and viral pathogens.

Project and Position Details

  • Post: Senior Project Associate (One position only)
  • Project Name: ‘Establishment of new and augmentation of existing (A) BSL3 facilities…’ (SAHAJ project)
  • Funding Agency: DBT
  • Duration: Tenable till April 27, 2030 (Contract renewal annually based on performance/project duration)
  • Posting Location: National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi
  • Upper Age Limit: 40 years
  • Emoluments: Consolidated pay of Rs. 42,000/- plus 27% HRA per month (Total: Rs. 53,340/- approximately).

Educational Qualifications

This is a senior role requiring significant research experience:

  • Essential Qualification:
    • M.Sc in any branch of Life Sciences with four-years R&D experience, OR
    • Ph.D. in any Branch of Life Sciences.
  • Desirable Qualifications:
    1. Prior experience working in Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) and/or Animal Biosafety Level 3 (ABSL-3) laboratories.
    2. Hands-on experience with bacterial and viral pathogens, mammalian and bacterial cell culture, molecular biology techniques, flow cytometry, and immunological assays.

Job Description

The primary responsibility involves high-containment work for internal research and external users:

  1. Handling bacterial and viral pathogens, as well as laboratory animals, within BSL-3 and ABSL-3 facilities.
  2. Conducting experiments in BSL-3 and ABSL-3 environments for SAHAJ (external) users.
  3. Assisting the Facility In-Charge with additional tasks and protocols as required.

  • Exemption: Women, SC, ST, and PH candidates are exempted from the fee (subject to submission of documentary proof).
