BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus, has invited applications for the position of Project Research Scientist-I (Non-Medical) to work on a cutting-edge multidisciplinary project. Sponsored by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), this role focuses on the development of advanced microneedle systems for skin cancer therapy, integrating pharmaceutical sciences with real-time thermal monitoring.
Project Overview: The Future of Melanoma Care
The project, titled “Microneedle-assisted chemo-photodynamic combination therapy for melanoma treatment integrated with real-time monitoring of cancerous lesions using thermal imaging,” represents a significant leap in “smart” drug delivery. It combines localized chemotherapy with light-activated therapy, all while using thermal imaging to track the biological response of the tumor.
Role and Responsibilities
The selected candidate will work under a multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Gautam Singhvi (Pharmacy), with Co-PIs from Biological Sciences, Chemistry, and Mechanical Engineering. Key tasks include:
- Formulation Science: Developing and optimizing microneedle-based drug delivery systems.
- Analytical Testing: Method development and validation for the drug candidates.
- Biological Evaluation: Conducting in vitro cell line studies and in vivo animal model studies.
- Digital Integration: Utilizing thermal imaging and potentially machine learning to monitor treatment efficacy.
- Documentation: Maintaining research logs, writing high-impact manuscripts, and progress reports for ICMR.
Eligibility and Qualifications
- Primary Education: M.Pharm, M.S. Pharm, or M.Tech in Pharmaceutics, Biotechnology, Medical Devices, Nanomedicine, or equivalent disciplines.
- National Exams: Candidates with GPAT, GATE, or NET qualifications will be given preference.
- Desirable Skills: Proficiency in programming languages (Python/R), knowledge of Machine Learning, and experience with thermal imaging hardware or software.
- Age Limit: Maximum 35 years.
Fellowship and Career Prospects
- Stipend: ₹56,000 per month + 10% HRA (as per rules).
- Tenure: 1 year (extendable up to 3 years based on performance).
- PhD Opportunity: The candidate may be permitted to register for the BITS Pilani PhD program, provided they meet the institute’s academic norms.
Application & Selection Process
The selection is merit-based. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an online interview.
- Application Deadline: 04th February 2026.
- Mode of Interview: Online.
