Tuberculosis Research Opportunities at CSIR-IMTECH

The Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH), a premier laboratory under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), has announced vacancies for Project Associate-I positions. This research project focuses on the critical area of drug resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, specifically targeting the mechanisms that render common antibiotics ineffective.

Eligibility & Desirable Skills

  • Essential Qualification: Master’s or Integrated Master’s in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Natural Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, MVSc, or Animal Sciences. OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or Medicine.
  • Desirable: Prior hands-on experience in Organic Synthesis and/or Medicinal Chemistry.
  • Status: Candidates awaiting results are not eligible to apply.

Monthly Emoluments

The stipend structure follows CSIR guidelines based on national-level examination qualification:

  1. ₹31,000/- + HRA: For candidates who have qualified CSIR-UGC/ICAR/ICMR NET (including lectureship) or GATE, or other national-level exams conducted by Central Govt. departments (DBT/DST).
  2. ₹25,000/- + HRA: For candidates who do not fall under the above category.

Research Focus

The project aims to combat antibiotic resistance by identifying small molecules that can inhibit aminoglycoside acetyltransferase (Mtbeis). This enzyme is a major culprit in making tuberculosis bacteria resistant to aminoglycoside antibiotics, which are vital components of TB treatment regimens.
