
The Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, an autonomous institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, has announced multiple project-based positions. These roles are contractual and for an 18-month duration under a critical BIRAC-funded project led by Principal Investigator Dr. P. Prasad, Scientist-F.
The project is titled: “Expansion of INSACOG Wastewater surveillance of SARS-CoV-2, Emerging Pathogens and Antimicrobial Resistance through Genomic-based methods.”

Detailed Eligibility and Job Specifications
1. Project Scientist-II (Wet Lab)
- Essential Qualification: Doctoral Degree in Sciences OR Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology (min. 60% marks).
- Essential Experience: Three (3) years of experience in R&D in industrial, academic, or scientific organizations.
- Desired Skills: Expertise in microbiological and molecular biology techniques (microbial isolation, cloning, PCR/qPCR/dPCR, nucleic acid isolation, NGS library preparation), along with managerial and coordination skills.
- Job Description: Coordinate and execute sample collection, systematic data management, report preparation, and collaboration with partner institutions.
2. Project Associate-II (Wet Lab)
- Essential Qualification: Master’s Degree in Natural/Agricultural Sciences/MVSc OR Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology/Medicine (min. 55% marks).
- Essential Experience: Two (2) years of experience in R&D or scientific activities.
- Desired Skills: Hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid extraction, RT-qPCRs, NGS library preparation).
- Preference: Candidates qualified in NET/GATE/GPAT will be preferred.
- Job Description: Carry out sewage sample processing, nucleic acid extraction, RT-qPCRs, and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) preparation.
3. Project Associate-II (Bioinformatics)
- Essential Qualification: Master’s Degree in Natural/Agricultural Sciences/MVSc OR Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology/Medicine (min. 55% marks).
- Essential Experience: Two (2) years of experience in R&D or scientific activities.
- Desired Skills: Familiarity with NGS data analysis (Exome, Whole-genome, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq), and programming skills in R-Bioconductor and Python.
- Preference: Candidates qualified in NET/GATE/GPAT will be preferred.
- Submission Note: A brief one-page write-up explaining bioinformatics research experience and publications (if any) is required.
- Job Description: Responsible for analyzing next-generation sequencing data and related bioinformatics tasks.
4. Laboratory Technician (Field/Lab Support)
- Essential Qualification: B.Sc. OR 3-year diploma in engineering and technology.
- Desired Skills: Biological technical skills and proficiency in Microsoft tools.
- Job Description: Routine collection of wastewater, soil, and other samples from various sites in and around Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, general laboratory work, and managing lab orders/logistics.
